College Park Aviation Museum

Quatrefoil designed and fabricated a new exhibit commemorating the centennial anniversary of air mail. The museum was interested in developing activities for families and school groups as well as a new graphic hierarchy and improved wayfinding. Graphic panels and artifacts encircle the Curtiss Jenny aircraft, which sits atop a compass rose, similar to the one which guided pilots at this airport.

Visitors enjoy a magnificent view of the runway and explore interactives along the window wall — dressing up like a pilot, comparing propeller innovations, and calculating payload to transport themselves and their luggage via airplane. The Cargo Calculator teaches visitors about the basics of flight dynamics and connects the idea that planes first moved mail, which subsequently led to moving people, and the growth of the commercial airline industry.
